- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018Works extremely well. 10-14 lbs of ice will keep the food cold for 2-3 days, even when the cooler is sitting in my oven of a car all day in the middle of summer.
Easy to drain. The drain plug at the bottom does not leak and is sunk a bit into the bottom of the interior so that you don't often need to tilt the cooler to get all the water out.
Perfect for sitting on. Every day I use the cooler as a seat while cooking. It holds my weight (~150 lbs) very well.
Roomy. I can fit about 5+ days of food for one person in the cooler.
The only slightly negative thing about this cooler is that the top surface is really slick. Any smooth material placed on top of it will slide off almost immediately, and since the top is made out of plastic there's no easy way to attach rubberized or silicon grips to it (they'll just peel off with the bare minimum of applied weight). But that's not really most people's use case, so it's not that big of a deal.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2018This is a good cooler for the price. I bought it to replace an ancient Coleman cooler that was beginning to fail.
It was used essentially as a portable refrigerator on a 7 day camping trip, so it was not filled to the brim with ice and drinks as in the test cases. The cooler did pretty well even in the car on HOT days. Block ice was more successsful than cubed ice. The drain works well, and the handles are very good. Unless you are going to be away from an ice source for days, this is probably a good enough cooler. Certainly better than some on the market.
Considering I could by 4 of these for the price of a smaller Yeti, it is a good deal.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2013I caught this when it was being sold under $35, at that price great cooler. It doesn't hold ice nearly as long as advertised. Used this on a 5 day camping trip with 7 people in our camp. This was our primary beverage cooler so it was opened and closed constantly. Needed ice daily just like most other coolers I have owned. The only exceptional cooler I have is a 20+ year old Gott 60 with the ice "cells" in the lid. That thing will go days on a bag of ice. Of course it is big and heavy but still the best. Back to this Xtreme 52... I added some support lines to the lid as I can see the hinges breaking after long term use. I used some guy wire and stainless steel screws to attach and that problem is solved. The no tip drain plug is nice and works as advertised. Bottom line, if you can get this cheap, good buy, but do not be fooled into thinking it is a miracle cooler that will keep ice for days.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2012First, I must say that I was using this outside of the recommended temperature-range - they claim ice will hold 5 days up to 90'F. I was in temps up to 98'F and getting about a day with ice, but even when we had several consecutive days in the 80's, it wasn't keeping for ice 5 days. More like two. And yes, the cooler was outside, in shade for the full day. Next season I think I might try it with dry ice instead, see how that does.
Part of the problem *may* have been that the lid didn't close properly on it's own, it had to be pushed down to seal, and my campmates weren't always careful about that.
Otherwise: nice and roomy. This thing is BIG, but deep and narrow rather than shallow and wide, making it an adventure sometimes to find what I was looking for and freezing my arm in the process. The drain worked well, handles were fine.
As one other reviewer mentioned, it doesn't have a tray inside for "dry storage" or small items... I've had coolers in the past with this feature (there was usually a lip or ridge for the tray to set into) and it is important, because no matter how well-sealed I *thought* things were, water still got into bags and containers that were supposed to be waterproof, which made me then question the safety of that food. And this cooler is certainly deep enough that such a tray wouldn't result in much lost capacity.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2017I purchased this to use as a mash tun for home brewing. Several users questioned whether the drain would work, etc. Let me assure you, I'm thrilled with it. The drain plug unscrews in standard fashion, leaving a bare standard 1/2" port to install your stainless ball valve. The construction is good with thick insulation in the the lid as well as the sides and bottom and there is good sloped drainage so you don't leave a lot of wort undrained at the end of your mash. I replaced the cheap plastic hinges with stainless steel ones I found on Amazon as well Coleman Stainless Steel Cooler Hinges and the stainless steel lid stay 11" Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Replacement Lid Strap for Igloo or Coleman Coolers although I suspect the chest would serve you well without these additions. Cheers

- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2011Admittedly, the product description does not mention a tray. However, it was my (erroneous) assumption that coolers of this type included trays because they used to.
The fact that it does not is a major deficiency in my view: a tray is extremely handy for separating smaller items; for keeping delicate items from being crushed by heavier items; and for keeping dry items high and dry.
Surprisingly, Coleman's website does not indicate that a tray is even available as an extra cost accessory -- one I would purchase in a heartbeat.
Equally surprising, my research indicates that other manufacturers don't include trays with their coolers any longer either. In the end, I returned this cooler and bought an Igloo at Costco and used the old tray I already had.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best in its segment.
Its not very strong built cooler like expensive coolers but its overall ok. Its a budget cooler and its quite big in size, it will take lots of car space so choose wisely. Its cooling is overall good, i put some ice in it and it lasted for 24 hours indoors , not bad for small summer trips or to party with friends over the weekends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Coleman quality
Great Coleman quality. I used a Coleman for 20 years, but now had to change as the old one was getting too tatty to use in public, though it functioned very well indeed. This one is large and keeps drinks really cold until the next morning after the party - so we can finish the leftovers for lunch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good
Very efficient insulation. None of the light weight coolboxes available here performs like this one, only to the heavy commercial boxes come closer to these extremely light weight ice boxes. Their claim of 5 days is believable if you pack the box full same temperature items and ice pack.
