Are Yeti Rambler Tumbler Cups Dishwasher Safe? Yes And Here’s Why

Recently I got lazy and started putting my Yeti tumbler in the dishwasher instead of hand washing it. But I then worried about ruining the expensive mug so I did some research to discover whether or not Yeti cups are dishwasher safe.

The Yeti Rambler range of tumblers are in fact dishwasher safe. Originally the company suggested you only hand wash them but they amended this back in 2015 when, after some serious testing, determined that yes their tumbler cups were strong enough and built well enough to handle the extreme environment of a dishwasher.

Care Instructions State They ARE Dishwasher Safe

This funny image from a Yeti customer that was posted to Reddit in 2017 is likely caused by Yeti transitioning their instruction manuals and packaging. The instruction manual inside the cup said NOT safe for dishwashers while the care instructions on the external sleeve say it is dishwasher safe.

While I cannot confirm that all the new packaging states they are dishwasher safe (I bought my 30oz Rambler about 3 years ago and it is still going strong today) I would presume that now all care instructions say the same thing and confirm that YES Yeti Rambler Tumblers are in fact dishwasher safe.

This also goes for all sizing of the Tumblers. 10oz, 20oz and 30oz tumblers should all be considered dishwasher safe. You can throw them in there for a quick and easy clean and not have to worry about it.

Why Were Yeti Rambler Mugs Originally Thought Not To Be Dishwasher Safe?

Yeti Rambler mugs work so well at keeping beverages hot or cold because they use a vacuum seal. Between the inside metal layer of the cup and the outside metal layer is a near-perfect vacuum. This stops heat from escaping.

It was originally thought that putting your Yeti Ramblers in the dishwasher could destroy the vacuum seal, thus rendering the cup useless at retaining or keeping out heat.

But given that these cups can handle boiling water for things like Tea and Coffee it doesn't make sense that the heat from the dishwasher would destroy the seal.

I guess ultimately Yeti did their own testing and determined that their cups could handle the dishwasher and still keep their vacuum seal.

Are RTIC Tumblers Dishwasher Safe?

RTIC are arguably one of Yeti's biggest competitors and they make tumblers that are almost identical and work just as well.

RTIC say on their website that their tumblers are NOT dishwasher safe and you should hand wash only.

However, many users have commented that they consistently wash their RTIC tumblers in the dishwasher with no issues.

I wash all my Yeti, RTIC, Mossy Oak etc. in the dishwasher. If it can hold boiling water for tea, I can't see how a dishwasher will hurt them. I have not had any of my many pieces lose vacuum nor have any cosmetic damage doing this.

Given RTIC Tumblers are much more affordable than Yeti tumblers it is up to you which tumbler you get and whether or not you risk putting your RTIC in the dishwasher
