Does Your Size Hydro Flask Fit In a Cup Holder?

Hydro Flasks are great at keeping drinks cold and hot for hours but if you're going to be driving a lot you might want to know whether or not the size Hydro Flask you have or want is going to fit into a cup holder.

When you're ordering online it can be difficult to work out whether or not it will fit and it's not easy to find the dimensions of your car holder and what Hydro Flask that will fit without way too much effort.

So I wanted to create a definitive guide of does this size Hydro Flask fit in a cup holder.

I personally own all the major sizes of Hydro Flasks and have tested them in my small car cup holders and in my girlfriends larger SUV.

Below you'll find answers to whether or not every size of Hydro Flask will fit in a cup holder or not.

Simply find the size you're looking at getting and your question will be answered.

What Size Hydro Flask Fits in a Cup Holder?

The 18, 21 and 24 Hydro Flasks are the thinnest and fit easily into cup holders. The 12, 16 and 20 oz Hydro Flasks are slightly thicker and fit into most cup holders. The 32 and 40 oz Hydro Flasks are too wide to fit into cup holder.

Below I've gone through each of the sizes one by one and outlined their width/diameter and whether or not they fit into cup holders or special adapters you can get so they can fit into cup holders.

Does The 40 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

Unfortunately no, the 40 oz Hydro Flask does NOT fit in any standard car cup holders. At 3.58 inches (9.07 cm) it's just way too wide and no car cup holders are designed to fit bottles that wide.

Most car cup holders are around the 2.9-3.2 inches mark (7.2-8cm) which is a smaller diameter than the 40 oz Hydro Flask. So unless you know that your car has a HUGE cup holder then the 40 oz Hydro Flask will not fit.

If you want to take your 40 oz Hydro Flask in the car then you'll need to get a Hydro Flask cup holder adapter which expands out your small cup holder and turns it into one large enough to fit a big Hydro Flask bottle.

The PFCC is my cup hold adapter of choice as the bottom expands out so it fits tight in any car cup holder and the top has rubber tabs so your Hydro Flask bottle won't fall out easily. It's also fairly well priced.

Does The 32 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

The 32 oz is one of, if not THE, most popular Hydro Flask size.

But the 32 oz is too wide to fit in a cup holder. at 3.58 inches (9.07 cm) in diameter it's much thicker than the 2.9-3.2 inches most car cup holders allow for.

I personally own a 32 oz Hydro Flask and it's my favorite size. It's big enough that I can carry enough water for all day, but small enough that it doesn't feel huge. I wish it fit in my car cup holder so I could easily use it in my car. But the fact of the matter is…it doesn't.

If for you bigger is better and you don't have your heart set on a Hydro Flask then check out the list of the biggest water bottles that fit in cup holders.

It's significantly wider than the smaller sizes even though it's a similar height to the 21 oz Standard Mouth cup.

If you want to have you 32 oz Hydro Flask fit in a cup holder then you need to get a cup holder expander that will fit it.

The Smart Kup is a simple, yet effective, Hydro Flask cup holder adapter that is designed to perfectly fit either a 32 oz or 40 oz Hydro Flask. While it doesn't have the expanding base like the PFCC it's simple design means it's less likely to break.

Does The 24 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

Yes the 24 oz Hydro Flask fits easily in a cup holder making it the largest Hydro Flask to easily fit in a cup holder. Its height can make it difficult to fit in some cup holders with limited overhead space and the height means it can tip over in shallow cup holders.

The 24 oz is part of the “Standard Mouth” line of Hydro Flasks which have the thinnest possible diameter at 2.87 inches (7.23 cm). This means they fit into almost all car cup holders.

However, they do have a tight squeeze on some of the smaller car cup holders as you can see below it stuck in the back of my partner's car but it wouldn't fit all the way in.

One thing you do need to be aware of though is that the 24 oz Hydro Flask is quite tall. At 9.4 inches tall (23.88 cm) it sticks up pretty high.

It's actually taller than the 32 oz Hydro Flask and is a similar height to the 40 oz Hydro Flask.

This height means if you're putting it somewhere like a center console on in a cup holder in your car door then the height of the bottle can sometimes get in the way and make it harder to fit in.

Does The 21 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

Yes the 21 oz Hydro Flask fits in almost all car cup holders. At 2.87 inches (7.23 cm) it is small enough to squeeze into even small cup holders, though it may be a tight fit.

Like the 24 oz and 18 oz this size Hydro Flask has the slimmest diameter of any Hydro Flasks out there. Even the smaller 12, 16 and 20 oz wide mouth Hydro Flasks are wider than this one.

This slim design allows it to fit in pretty much every car cup holder I tried. It was quite a tight fit in some cup holders and in the back cup holder of my small car it ONLY JUST fit and wouldn't reach all the way down to the bottom. But it still stayed in place.

It fit easily in my girlfriend's car cup holders as she has a larger SUV than me.

Does The 20 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

Yes, the 20 oz Hydro Flask will fit in most regular sized car cup holders. However, it's slightly too wide to fit in small car cup holders so if your cup holder is super small you'll want to get a 18, 21 or 24 oz Hydro Flask which is thinner.

The 20 oz is the same diameter in thickness as the 16 oz as well as the 12 oz Hydro Flask seen below.

It's 2.91 inches (7.39 cm) in diameter and this fits into most car cup holders. It fit in the front of my small car fine and fit in my girlfriend's cup holder easily.

It's only 0.04 inches (0.16 cm) wider than the Standard Mouth bottles and while this change is tiny it can actually make the difference between the bottle fitting in the cup holder and not.

I have one third party cup holder in my van and my 18 oz Hydro Flask fit in just fine, but as you can see below the 12 oz Hydro Flask (same width as the 20 oz) just didn't fit.

If you're concerned or think you have a small cup holder in your car you should either measure your cup holder before purchasing a 20 oz Hydro Flask or you should get an 18 oz, 21 oz or 24 oz Hydro Flask which all have the smaller width.

Does The 18 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

The 18 oz Hydro Flask fits in almost all standard and small cup holders and is the best sized Hydro Flask for cup holders. It has the thinnest possible design whilst also being short enough where the height isn't an issue.

I personally own an 18 oz Hydro Flask and it fits in basically every single cup holder I have tried from my small car to my partner's larger SUV.

The only cup holder it struggled to fit in was the back cup holders of in my partner's car that are more designed for kids. But even this it JUST fit in and was tight enough that it wouldn't fall over.

It's only 2.87 inches (7.23 cm) in diameter and there are no other Hydro Flasks skinnier than this. It's also only 8.7 inches high so it shouldn't cause any major problems with being too high.

In my opinion this is the best Hydro Flask that fits in a cup holder.

Does The 16 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

The 16 oz Hydro Flask is thin enough to fit in most standard cup holders but is slightly too big to fit into small cup holders.

It's the same diameter as the 20 oz and 12 oz Hydro Flask bottles at 2.91 inches (7.39 cm) which is only a tiny bit fatter than the standard mouth Hydro Flasks.

It fit in almost all of the cup holders I tried but there were a couple of smaller cup holders that it just didn't fit in.

But these were more the back cup holders in a car which are generally designed smaller for children.

Still if you're worried just double check that your cup holder size is 2.91 inches or larger and you'll be good to go.

Does The 12 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

I got the 12 oz Hydro Flask for my kids and they absolutely love it. However, when it comes to fitting into cup holders:

The 12 oz Hydro Flask fits into most standard cup holders but does not fit into smaller cup holders designed for children which can be a little frustrating as this is a kids bottle. Also when the silicone boot is on the bottle it doesn't fit into standard cup holders.

You have to take the silicone boot off in order for it to fit. As this isn't easy to take on and off it means you have to decide whether you have it on constantly and don't use it in cup holders or you just take it off and deal with the dents that come with not having one.

It's 2.91 inches (7.39 cm) in diameter without the silicone protective boot and it fit fine in my small car cup holder and my girlfriend's car cup holders.

However, it struggled in the back cup holders of both cars and one cup holder in my campervan it just didn't fit in.

It's the shortest Hydro Flask option out there so height isn't an issue and because the lid is leak proof and my kids aren't too fussed about using cup holders anyway this wasn't a deal breaker.

Does The 64 oz Hydro Flask Fit in a Cup Holder?

The 64 oz Hydro Flask wide mouth and growler does NOT fit in any standard sized cup holders. At 4.72 inches (11.98 cm) in diameter it's just way too big to fit in any car cup holder, even large ones.

It's a full 1.14 inches (2.90 cm) wider than the 32 oz and 40 oz Hydro Flasks. This means it won't even fit a lot of Hydro Flask cup holder adapters.

You'll either need to get a specialised cup holder enlarger for really big bottles or just accept that this isn't a bottle that fits in a cup holder at all.

Does The 64 or 128 oz Hydro Flask Oasis Fit in a Cup Holder?

The Hydro Flask Oasis bottles in both 64 oz and 128 oz are the widest bottles Hydro Flask makes.

At a whopping 5.8 inches (14.73 cm) in diameter the 64 oz and 128 oz Oasis will NOT fit in even the largest cup holders. They are just much too wide.

Even the Hydro Flask cup holder adapters that people use to expand the size of their cup holder so they can fit a 32 oz or 40 oz Hydro Flask are too small for the Oasis bottles.

There is only one cup holder adapter that I know of that expands large enough to fit this bottle and it's The Expander 360.

However this is a bit flimsy and unlikely to be strong enough to secure the Oasis Hydro Flasks anyway. But still worth checking out if you really want a cup holder to fit your extra large Hydro Flask.

Do Hydro Flask Tumblers Fit Into Cup Holders?

Hydro Flask tumblers come in 16, 22 and 32 oz sizes and the base of the cups is 2.9 inches (7.37 cm) which is small enough to fit into most car cup holders.

The base of the tumblers is right in between the thickness of the standard mouth Hydro Flask bottles and the wide mouth Hydro Flask bottles.

All the Hydro Flask tumblers have the same sized base so they should all fit into most cup holders.

The only time you'll have potential issues with the Hydro Flask tumblers is if you are trying to put them into extra small cup holders like those in the backs of cars designed for kids. Otherwise any normal car cup holder should be fine.
