Weight is a big consideration when choosing a cooler. Yeti coolers can be heavy even when completely empty and when full they are obviously even heavier.

It's important to be aware of the weight of the cooler you are buying so you can make sure that you'll be able to lift it, or if you'll need help lifting it.

So I've gone out and done all the research to find out exactly how much Yeti products weigh when empty so you don't have to. I've looked at the weight

I've organised the weight of hard coolers, soft coolers as well as Yeti bags like the Panga and Crossroads as well as the Yeti Loadout products.

Why Are Yeti Coolers So Heavy?

Yeti Coolers Problem - Weight

Yeti coolers are extremely heavy compared to traditional cheaper coolers. The Coleman Xtreme 50-Quart wheeled cooler weighs less than 13 lbs, compare that to the similar size Yeti 65 which weighs 29 lbs and you can see there is a huge difference. So why do Yeti coolers weigh so much?

Yeti coolers are made from an outer shell of polyethylene plastic which is roto-molded to created the shell of the Yeti cooler. The interior is then pressure injected with polyurethane foam which then sets hard.

The outer shell of the Yeti is quite thick, and much thicker than a regular cooler giving it extra strength, but this also adds extra weight.

Yeti's have approximately 2 inches of insulation in the walls and 2-3 inches on insulation in the lid. Compare this to a regular cooler which has approximately 1 inch of insulation in the walls and no insulation in the lid at all and you can see why the Yeti's weigh more.

Add to this the extra features the Yeti cooler has like the nylon rope and rubber handles, the stainless steel single pin hinge, the non-slip rubber feet and the rubber latches and overall you get a cooler that is much heavier than a regular cooler.

Can You Carry Yeti Coolers By Yourself?

Given how heavy some Yeti coolers are you might ask yourself whether or not you'll be able to carry your Yeti cooler by yourself.

When empty, all but the largest Yeti coolers are able to be carried by a single person – assuming that person is fairly strong.

I personally own a Yeti 45 and at 23 lbs it's not light to carry but I don't have any issues with it.

Once you get up to the Tundra 125 the coolers start getting quite heavy, but it is the size that makes these coolers hard to carry single handedly.

While a strong man could lift something that is 89 lbs the Yeti Tundra 350 is just so large that it would be extremely awkward to carry by yourself.

When the coolers are full though carrying them by yourself becomes much much more difficult.

The Yeti 45 when full can weigh as much as 100 lbs. I personally can carry this myself but only very short distances.

So generally speaking the smaller Yeti's hard coolers – the Roadie and Tundra 35 + 45 – can be carried by one person when filled with ice and food.

But once you get the the Tundra 65 and above it's going to be back breaking to try and carry it yourself.

The soft sided coolers are easier to carry by yourself and have handles and straps to help you but the larger soft sided coolers like the Yeti Hopper M30 or the Hopper Two 40 would be very heavy if you completely filled them up.
